Asylum Seekers in the Czech Republic and their employment
Botková, Tereza ; Nová, Monika (advisor) ; Šedivý, Jiří (referee)
This thesis deals with the possibilities of employment of Asylum seekers on the labour market in the Czech Republic. I analyse this issue from the perspective of the workers of the Organisation for Aid to Refugee (hereinafter referred to as the OAR), whose task is to assist Asylum seekers on the labour market. I set three research questions, one main and two secondary. They focus on the overall perspective of the participants, the OAR workers, on the issue of employment of the Asylum seekers, to identify the barriers perceived by the participants in their efforts to integrate their clients into the labour market. I was also interested in their suggestions for possible changes that would improve the chances of the target group in the labour market. This thesis includes a qualitative research inquiry, which is conducted in the form of semi-structured interviews with participants. The results of the interviews are subsequently processed using the method of thematic analysis in order to provide answers to the research questions. The eight participants I selected from the OAR have personal experience with the target group of Asylum seekers. They are four lawyers and four social workers. The first chapter of the thesis describes the terms for different residence possibilities of foreigners in the Czech...

Pálová, Anna ; Jelínková, Marie (advisor) ; Frič, Pavol (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on the media image of migrant women on the Czech news websites Aktuálně.cz and iRozhlas.cz. The current situation in Ukraine proves the relevance of the topic of the thesis, which aims to find out what image of migrant women is created by these media, which present themselves as free and independent. At the same time, these news websites are public policy actors that influence the development of migration policy in the Czech Republic. As the thesis deals with the specific characteristics, contexts and connotations in which migrant women are mentioned in relation to migrant women, the method used is a qualitative content analysis of online media articles in the time period from the beginning of 2019 to the end of 2021. The content is coded and assigned to the relevant categories, which subsequently creates a closer picture of migrant women. For example, the work finds that media coverage of refugee women in foreign settings is most frequent. Furthermore, migrant women are portrayed predominantly as victims and heroines of refugee processes. Texts are devoted to personal stories and connotations of sympathy and admiration. These results are further complemented by a quantitative approach that assesses how much space is given to migrant women within the topic of migration....

Vargová, Martina ; Střítecký, Vít (advisor) ; Beneš, Jan (referee)
Diploma thesis Analysis of Negative Political and Security Impacts of Asylum Seekers Hosting in the European Union Member States reflects upon the increasing numbers of asylum seekers arriving at the shores of the European Union and therewith associated potential negative political and security impact of their hosting. The aim of the thesis is to assess whether any negative impact of asylum seekers hosting can be observed within three areas of concern identified as a) crime rate, b) terrorism rate and c) political tension between the host states and whether higher hosting performance of the member states produces a more negative impact. In order to fulfil the aim of the thesis, a quantitative ordinary least squares linear regression analysis followed by a qualitative approach is conducted. The analysis processes data on the number of asylum seekers arriving in each member state available via United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees database, the crime rate data available via Eurostat and the terrorism rate data available via Global Terrorism Database administered by University of Maryland. Two levels of analysis are present, a generalized level focusing on four categories of member states based on their per capita hosting performance and an individual level of analysis focusing on individual...

Lifestyle changes in immigrants and asylum seekers in the Czech republic South Bohemia
ZEMANOVÁ, Irena
Migration as a social process is a response to more or less complex economic, environmental, social and cultural conditions of human existence. Migration reasons have changed through history. With regard to gradual population aging, migration to the Czech Republic in the following years is not only probable, this is inevitable. Lifestyle is a major factor determinating health status and quality of life. Lifestyle is one of health determinants we can influence. The theoretical part of the thesis is divided into 9 chapters. The compilation is based on monograpfic publications, professional journals and electronic sources usage. The chapters of the thesis deal with the issue of immigrants and asylum seekers, migration in the Czech Republic and migration in general, they give an account of minorities living in the Czech Republic, describe their integration, outline the problems associated with emigration and the impact of emigration on psychological and health status of an individual The asylum procedure and lifestyle factors are also mentioned. The empirical part is focused on the research of lifestyle of immigrants and asylum seekers in the Czech Republic and in their countries of origin. The objective of the thesis is to compare lifestyles of immigrants and asylum seekers in the Czech Republic and in their countries of origin. The research took place in the town of České Budějovice, the subregion of the South Bohemian region. Questionnaire method was used to collect the research data. The questionnaire was anonymous and contained 25 questions. The introductory questions were focused on respondents´ identification data, through other questions lifestyle factors and health status were investigated. Total 100 questionnaires were distributed to the institutions providing assistance to immigrants and asylum seekers. 55 questionnaires were filled in and returned, the return rate was 55%. The objective of the thesis was accomplished, the lifestyle of immigrants and asylum seekers in the Czech Republic in the South Bohemian region was compared to that in their countries of origin. In my opinion it is very important to focus on foreigners integration into the Czech society, because integration does not only mean for foreigners to get rid of their habits, but may also enrich our society. People come to our country in search of better living conditions and want to start a new life here. Therefore it should be part of state policy to ensure equal access and equal opportunities for immigrants. I suppose I could be beneficial to make foreigners familiar with the current situation in the Czech Republic and to draw their attention to difficulties they may encounter while seeking a better life.
Integration of Recognized Refugees and Immigrants Children living in the Czech Republic
HODOUŠOVÁ, Jana
The issue of integration of children of asylum seekers and immigrants living in the Czech Republic is the theme of the thesis. I have chosen the topic because I find it very interesting and an up-to-day subject which is in the way of all citizens of the Czech Republic. I have focused the theoretical part on clarifying some concepts, such as: asylum seeker, immigrant, foreigner, refugee, unaccompanied minors, integration and other ones. The aim of the thesis is to find out obstacles for the integration of children of asylum seekers and immigrants living in the Czech Republic. For the implementation of the research part of the thesis, I have chosen the qualitative type of research - the method of interview - the technique of interview. A sociometric test has been chosen as a complementary method. The research was conducted in Permon, a facility for foreign children, from January 2011 to March 2011. The Research Group No 1 consisted of ten immigrant children from 7 to18 years old (in case of students their age could be 21 years at the utmost). The research of asylum seeking children was not enabled. The facility is obliged to protect the children and does not provide any information about them. I have processed the results through the form of case studies. For the purpose of the research implementation, I have divided the integration into five areas (language, culture, housing, social relations and needs). A questionnaire designed by PhDr. Kovařík and Prof. Dunovský was another independent part of my research. In the area of language, it came in sight that most immigrant children communicate in Czech language which they learned from their parents or, and it is very rare, in detention facilities for foreigners. The most frequent problem in this area is writing (spelling). In the area of culture, it came in sight that despite the possibility to observe customs of their original countries, very few respondents cherish them here in the Czech Republic. Customs and traditions differ from country to country, but it does not hinder the integration of children of immigrants. As for the area of housing, all respondents are living in the facility for children ? immigrants. They travel home, if there is the home, only at weekends or according to capability of their parents. All but two respondents are happy at home. In the area of social relations, it came in sight that if respondents need any help, they mostly approach teachers and educators but also friends and parents. In the last area, the area of needs, it came in sight that the most frequent need is to be with their families and then the need for greater freedom. The additional questionnaire for children revealed that what respondents are the most worried about is that they will not see their families any more. On the other hand, weekends spent with their families and leaving the facility are the two things that they are looking forward to the most. It is possible to say that respondents feel that the facility is a barrier which prevents them from integration into mainstream society and deprives them from their freedom. The sociometric test was performed in one secondary school and in one primary school in the town of Písek in February and March 2011. The Research Group No 2 consisted of students of different grades and age (7-17 years old) including foreigners. The test was performed in five classes. The test results showed that foreign children have no problem with their integration. Based on the results of the sociometric test, it is possible to take the assumption that the origin of children is not an obstacle in communication with other children. This assumption can be a basis for more extensive research. It is possible to use the thesis as a basis for any quantitative research. What is more, the thesis can serve the general public to increase their awareness of this issue.
STATUS OF RECOGNIZED APPLICANTS FOR ASYLUM IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC AFTER ENTRY OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC TO THE EUROPEAN UNION
SVOBODOVÁ, Iva
The Bachelor thesis deals with the status of refugees in the Czech Republic after 2004, when the Czech Republic joined the European Union. Its aim is to highlight the problems that occur in connection with the phenomenon of refugees in our country and present an overview of asylum policy in the Czech Republic In the first part the reader familiarizes with basic concepts that will accompany him throughout the work. The reader will also get an overview of the primary sources, which cover the international law concerning refugees. Furthermore, this theoretical part is aimed at development of asylum policy in the Czech Republic before and after 1991, when the Convention on the Status of Refugees has been ratified. And the changes brought by the accession of the Czech Republic into the European Union. After that, we will go through the asylum procedure from the foreigners` entry to the territory of our country to official decision regarding the refugee status obtaining. I compare the stay of foreigners in the various refugee centers, especially their rights and obligations and the availability of services. An integration of asylum seekers and recognized refugees is a subject of the further part of the thesis, in which we look at the integration process itself with eyes of different authors and where we highlight the errors occuring during the integration process. It is also a look at the state{\crq}s approach to the integration of refugees, primarily the State Integration Program is concerned. A detailed analysis of one area of the refugees` life is made, which is their approach to an education. A relationship between the Czech society and the refugees is described, based on the perspective of CVVM, Stem and the Czech Statistical Office. Regular studies are being carried out regarding this topic. Finally, we will acquaint with activities of intergovernmental and international organization UNHCR and selected NGOs working in the field of migration.
Issue of discrimination of immigrants and asylum seekers living in the Czech Republic
FITTLOVÁ, Romana
The behaviour of the majority towards foreigners (including asylum seekers and immigrants) is often based on stereotype thinking and the resulting prejudices against a group or an individual. Discrimination occurs then on the base of those prejudices. But discrimination is not only a problem of minorities; anybody in essence can become a victim of discrimination. There are a number of forms of discrimination, but even in case discrimination occurs in public, it can be proved only with difficulties. The theoretic part of the bachelor work is focused on the definition of the concept of discrimination and its forms, the concepts related with the issue of discrimination, the concepts from the sphere of migration, refugees and asylum seekers. The last part of the theory deals with the issue of media and their influence on the society. Two methods of qualitative research were used for the investigation of my bachelor work. The first was the method of controlled interview with selected members of majority population. The second method used was the method of contents analysis of a selected newspaper with focus on coverage (articles) of immigrants and asylum seekers (or possibly applicants for international protection). The contents analysis was performed retrospectively for six months of issue of the selected newspaper. The first goal of the work was to ascertain the opinions, stereotypes and prejudices related to immigrants and asylum seekers (or possibly applicants for international protection) among the selected members of the majority population. The second goal was to ascertain how the selected newspaper presented the coverage (articles) of immigrants and asylum seekers (or possibly applicants for international protection) {--} i.e. to discover whether it did not offer neutral (unbiased) view of the relevant situation in fact by using certain word classes. Both those goals were met. As my work presents qualitative research, the hypotheses were set only on the base of the research results. Among other things, e.g. the hypothesis No. 1 was set: Personal experience with foreigners shall be described mostly by respondents from the category of early and middle adulthood (age range from 20 to 45 years). Hypothesis No. 5: The members of majority population would not be ready to accept an asylum seeker or an immigrant as a member of their family. Hypothesis No. 15: The headlines of the articles correspond to their contents. Further hypotheses are stated in the discussion part. My work gave base to the origin of several suggestions for solution of the relevant issue, e.g. by expanding the awareness of the issue of migration, not only in schools but also through different lectures for broad public and of course also through the media, in order to guarantee the information level of broad classes of the public, further by releasing the public from prejudices concerning foreigners from Eastern countries {--} through contact with foreigners from those countries to broad public, e.g. meetings with the foreigners, lectures about those countries, about the problems the inhabitants can have in their relevant countries, etc. Further suggestions are described in the end of the work.

It follows the development of the amount of asylum seekers it these countries since 1989 and monitors the legislation accepted by the particular states in the given period. The integral part of this thesis is comparison of the current aspects of asylum policies in the examined states. The aim of this thesis was to compare the attitude of the three states to the asylum applicants, to evaluate how it has changed during last twenty years and to survey to what extent the praxis of asylum policy reflects the integration models adopted by the countries. These are discrimination model for Germany, multicultural model for Great Britain and assimilation model for France. The thesis is divided into four chapters, where the first three chapters are dedicated to the analysis of asylum policies of Germany, Great Britain and France; the last chapter then concentrates on the comparison of the studied aspects.
